About Kym

I’ve always had a love for learning and teaching and started my career initially as a Primary School Teacher. During this time we decided to get a dog - I always grew up around dogs, we always had Cavalier Spaniels. We picked a vizsla as I wanted a dog that was more active - be careful what you wish for… As you can imagine juggling being a teacher and having a vizsla was a busy task, we attended lots of training classes, socialisation sessions (walking your dog on lead round in a circle for an hour) and our family helping with Vinnie during the working day.

I wanted to do more with him and I love dogs so I took the leap to leave teaching and start my own dog walking and boarding business. As time went on I was spotting things with people’s dogs that I wanted to be able to help with. And to add to this Vinnie was starting to show signs of over-reactivity to boisterous dogs (now I know I put him in dog walking groups with rude dogs and didn’t advocate for him properly). I joined Honest Hounds - I wanted to learn more, I wanted to help and I didn’t want to be micro-managing other dog owners issues on walks when they did not want to train their dog.

I reached out to Jess Probst and she invited me up to a trainer’s weekend - I was so out of my depth! I also got to meet Jessie then too as this was the start of the journey with Jess P and Atlas!

After this weekend I hung around, I shadowed the walks and workshops as much as I could. I took the learning from there on board and transferred this to how I worked with my own clients. I also brought home Loki, my rehome dog - he was complex and taught me a lot about group dynamics, working through health issues and resource guarding.

From this I started my own Social Walks, helped run the workshops and left dog walking to solely focus on dog training. As of now I take in dogs to train them whilst they live with me and my dogs, I meet with clients for 1:1 sessions, support remotely, foster for charities, assist with residential retreats and offer a variety of workshops and socialisation walks.

I have a real passion for all things dog, but particularly fulfilment of breed specific needs, which is so often one of the “why’s” involved in behaviour challenges. I compete in scentwork trials with Vinnie, and attend deer stalking with Raven to give them that much needed outlet, but also to have fun with them, it always amazes me how much they love to work!

Favourite Part Of Being A Dog Trainer?

My favourite thing about being a dog trainer is being able to support owners when they’re struggling with their dogs. Helping them build confidence, strengthen their relationship, and find solutions to challenges is incredibly rewarding. But I also love the fun side of training—getting stuck into dog sports like mantrailing and scentwork. There’s nothing better than watching dogs do what they were born to do, using their instincts and skills in an exciting, engaging way. Seeing both owners and dogs grow together makes every moment worthwhile!

Favourite Breeds

HPRs, Terriers & Hounds. But I love all breeds 😍

My Dogs

Vinnie is a Hungarian Vizsla born in June 2021. We have had him since we was an 8 week old puppy and would change many ways we raised him. He is a happy go lucky guy who is typically uninterested in dogs and people, therefore he makes a great training dog and is usually the dog we always get out first. This wasn’t always the case as he used to have a very low tolerance to boisterous dogs who lacked social awareness, his tolerance was low and he became over-corrective. We’ve worked so hard on this and now he’s super tolerant and looks for help when dogs are too much for him. Vinnie is pretty indifferent and not your normalised hyper vizsla unless he’s doing scentwork or mantrailing - this is when he’s at his happiest. He loves problem solving by and working with me to find the source of the scent.

Raven is a Bavarian Mountain Hound born June 2024. We have had her since she was 8 weeks old. She is a totally different kettle of fish from Vinnie. She’s not easy going and laid back - she’s busy, headstrong, a very smart girl and incredibly independent. I do deer tracking and stalking with Raven as this is what she was bred to do and she desperately needed an outlet for her boundless energy and constant desire to have that nose to the ground. She thrives in this environment. Raven is approachable and gives off many appeasement signals to dogs so makes for another great stooge dog. She’s been around so many people since living with us that she is always up for people fussing over her silky, long ears.
