Separation Anxiety Course
Giving You & Your Dog Your Freedom Back
Most separation anxiety training treats your dog like a stopwatch to beat: leave for a few seconds, come back, leave a little longer, come back, and hope the numbers keep climbing.
We take a different approach entirely.
Rather than training your dog to simply tolerate more time alone, we work with the whole dog, their nervous system, their sense of safety, their sleep, their confidence and their relationships, because lasting change comes from your dog feeling safe when you're gone, not from enduring longer.
We also know that Separation Anxiety rarely affects the dog alone, so this course is so much more than ‘training.’ It's a fully supported 16-week program that looks after you too, from your first module to your last Zoom call, so neither of you has to find your way back to freedom on your own.
Course Structure
-
Weeks 1 & 2 Reframing Separation Anxiety
We start by reframing what separation anxiety really is: not naughtiness or stubbornness, but your dog's nervous system asking for help.
-
Weeks 3 & 4 Safety and Prediction
We build the sense of safety and predictability that helps your dog feel secure when you're not there, while looking after your own wellbeing too. -
Weeks 5 & 6 Developmental Psychology
Drawing on how independence naturally develops, we explore attachment, and why progress was never really about counting minutes in the first place.
-
Weeks 7 & 8 Experiences That Build Resilience
Through emotional rituals, predictability and confidence-building experiences, your dog starts developing the resilience that makes lasting change possible.
-
Weeks 9 & 10 The Social Environment
We look at the social world around your dog, including your own role in it, and audit the everyday patterns that shape how they feel.
-
Weeks 11 & 12 Building Functional Independence
We introduce practical support, from technology to nervous system tools and working alongside your vet, to help your dog build real independence.
-
Weeks 13 & 14 Developing Capacity
Through curiosity, choice and capability, your dog's capacity to cope with being alone keeps growing, one small win at a time.
-
Weeks 15 & 16 Thinking Like a Behaviour Detective
You'll finish equipped to think like a behaviour detective yourself: reading your dog, reviewing progress and knowing what to do next.
A Full Support Team, Not Just a Course
When you are dealing with separation anxiety, you are already stretched thin. Caregiver burnout is real, the guilt is heavy, and your world has likely shrunk. You don’t need unmanageable tasks and unclear goals while you try to help you and your dog survive daily life. We know how exhausting it can be, and we have supported so many members through it. That’s why we didn't just build a training course, we built a complete, wrap-around support system.
For 16 weeks, you don't have to figure it out alone. We have brought the experts together under one roof to support both ends of the lead. Here is how we do things differently:
Live Fortnightly Behaviour Coaching: You won’t just be handed pre-recorded videos and left to your own devices. You get direct, live access to Jess P and affiliate Hannah to troubleshoot your real-world struggles as they happen.
Dedicated Mental Health Support: Your wellbeing matters just as much as your dog’s. You’ll have dedicated connection sessions with Sean Camp to navigate the stress, isolation, and emotional toll of SA.
A Paced, Progressive Curriculum: The structured learning and journal tasks are delivered every two weeks. This gives you and your dog the actual time and breathing room needed to absorb, practice, and progress.
A Close-Knit Community: You will join a private WhatsApp group of owners walking the exact same path. No judgment, no unsolicited advice, just a safe space with people who truly get it.
A Future-Proof Maintenance Plan: We don't just drop you at week 16, you have a whole community around you to help you continue your journey, and we’re working on developing you into a problem-solving detective to help you continue your progress long after the program ends.

Yes, but we also want to make sure you and your dog are at the right stage of the journey for this course. Whether you're just starting to notice signs of separation anxiety or you've already been working on it for a while, we'll look at your current situation to make sure the course is the right fit and level of support for you. If your dog is already working with a vet or is on medication, that's completely fine; we cover how to work collaboratively alongside your vet as part of the course.
-
Once applications are in, we’ll take the time to review each one carefully to make sure the course is the right fit for you and your dog right now. We’ll then be back in touch either way with your next steps. If you’re offered a place, we’ll ask you to send us some videos before the course begins so we can start building a picture of what’s happening and hit the ground running with a journey that feels personalised to you and your dog.
-
Yes. The course will focus primarily on one dog, as the support and guidance are personalised around their individual separation anxiety journey. However, the learning throughout the course is designed to help you understand the bigger picture, so you’ll also come away with the skills and knowledge to apply the same principles to other dogs in your household where appropriate.
-
As everything is delivered online through Zoom, our community platform and WhatsApp, you can join from anywhere. Our live Zoom sessions are scheduled in the GMT time zone, but they are recorded so you can catch up if you’re unable to attend live. As places are limited and the course builds on a lot of the thinking we use across Honest Hounds, preference may be given to people who are already further along in their Honest Hounds journey and have completed some of our core learning.
-
Because this is a 16-week supported course with limited spaces and ongoing access to our team, your place is for the full programme duration. If you choose a payment plan, you are committing to all scheduled payments, even if you decide not to continue part-way through.
If you change your mind before the programme begins, please contact us as soon as possible. Any refund or cancellation will be handled in line with your statutory consumer rights and the terms provided at checkout.
If exceptional circumstances arise during the programme, please get in touch with us directly and we’ll review the situation with you.
-
We’ve deliberately spaced the learning over 16 weeks so it can fit around real life without feeling like another full-time job. You’ll receive a new module every two weeks, giving you time to work through the learning, complete your journal prompts and homework, and put the practical work into place at a pace that works for you and your dog. Some weeks will naturally involve more practical training than others, but consistency matters far more than spending hours at a time on it.
-
That doesn’t automatically rule you out. We know separation anxiety rarely exists in isolation, and the course is designed to look at the whole dog, including wider behavioural challenges, stress, health, nervous-system state and any veterinary or medication support already in place. We’ll review every application before offering a place so we can make sure the programme is appropriate for you and your dog. If we feel your situation would be better supported with more intensive or individual 1:1 input first, we’ll let you know and recommend the most appropriate next step rather than putting you into a program that isn’t the right fit.
-
Absolutely. We have a full Separation Anxiety webinar available inside the Education tier, where we take a deeper look at our approach, why we focus on the whole dog rather than simply counting minutes, and what the 16-week course is designed to support.
If you’re not currently an Education member, you can access it through our 7-day free trial, giving you the chance to watch the webinar, explore the platform and get a feel for the way we work before deciding whether the programme is right for you. Join us here:
