Erno Keeps His Cool Amidst The Dog Park Chaos

Katie joined the Honest Hounds Community to help Erno overcome his over reactivity towards other dogs. Since joining they worked with our neutral walk leaders to help build his resilience and confidence around other dogs and this recent win show’s just how much the hard work is paying off.

I’ve just been on a walk to my local park during my lunch with Erno and my mind has been blown! The park can be an absolute minefield of craziness when it comes to people and dogs and today was no exception. As soon as I got in there we were rushed by an off lead dog that then decided to have a pop at Erno for, genuinely, no reason as we were just walking by minding our own business. What does Erno do… nothing. No growling, no barking back, no lunging. The owner had to come over and pick their dog up and take it away and was very sorry. Next up, 5 mins later, a very nosey boy who was incredibly interested in Erno’s bottom!. Would not leave us alone and didn’t go back to his owner who was trying to recall him over and over. What did Erno do? Nothing again! His hackles were up but he didn’t react, he didn’t bark, growl or anything - even though an appropriate correction may technically have been warranted in this case!!. I can’t believe how chilled he was about it all. A few months ago we would have massively over reacted in that situation!

A big thanks to my local NW leaders Ally and Victoria and to Hannah plus all the other dog pawrents who join the walks with their pooches… you have all played a huge part in Erno’s journey so far and long may it continue!
